I’ve recently observed that the washing-up sponges we use seem to be starting to fall apart faster. I don’t know if this is a real thing or not.
In any case, it got me a little bit annoyed that surely loads of micro-plastics must be going everywhere. Perhaps even remaining on our crockery and cutlery.
It’s a tiny thing, in the grand scheme of things. But it bothered me. And I’m a washing-up sponge stalwart. Cloths and brushes just don’t do it for me. We tried bamboo scourers too, but they just fall apart and are hard to hold.
And so it came to pass that, for about the second time ever, I actually bought something that I saw in an advert on the internet.
“The Seep Company” make washing up sponges out of loofah and tree pulp.
Their website tries hard to get you on a year’s supply (12 sponges). But you can buy a pack of 4 if you look in the right place. These are NOT affiliate links, by the way. I just like this product.
And they are great! I would disagree that they are better than plastic. There are cases where they just haven’t worked as well on stubborn, stuck-on stuff. But for the most part they are really good. I like that you can refresh them with a wash in the dishwasher or washing machine. I’ve had one on the go for three weeks and it shows no real sign of falling apart yet. So I think they will last longer than the plastic ones.
Anyway, I like these and I thought you should know that they are good.
We won’t change the world by changing our washing up sponges. But I feel better using them.
