My aim, in "standing firm", is to make sure that other road users around me are aware of my presence, and my rights as a cyclist AS I'm cycling.
I think that, like a decent bike, some decent cycle clothing makes the whole experience much nicer.
Establishing a routine is good, will come as you work at it, and makes life easier.
I used to take paniers, but leaving things at my destination means that all I have to carry fits easily into a small rucksack.
Hopefully my treat will arrive tomorrow!
Of course, it doesn't REALLY matter, but a decent, fit-for-purpose, well-maintained bike makes the whole experience so much better.
Once you start cycling, you're not alone, and there's lots of help out there from friendly cyclists who have lots of experience.
Seriously. If you live within about 5 miles of where you work, there's very little excuse. Give it a go!
