Perhaps my own safety, and that of those around me, is more important than making a point about the rules of the road?
I don't remember the last time I did an extended ride.
Mostly, cycling is an exhilarating, fun, healthy, life-enhancing, life-lengthening, sociable, environmentally friendly, fast, cheap, and trendy way to travel.
Perhaps talking about your cycling, telling your stories from two wheels and sharing your experiences will make the roads a little bit safer.
My aim, in "standing firm", is to make sure that other road users around me are aware of my presence, and my rights as a cyclist AS I'm cycling.
I think that, like a decent bike, some decent cycle clothing makes the whole experience much nicer.
Establishing a routine is good, will come as you work at it, and makes life easier.
I used to take paniers, but leaving things at my destination means that all I have to carry fits easily into a small rucksack.
Of course, it doesn't REALLY matter, but a decent, fit-for-purpose, well-maintained bike makes the whole experience so much better.
